Tanga zone
Tanga is one of 10 MSD zones. It was established in 2015 as a Sales Point center working under the Kilimanjaro Zone, previously known as Moshi Zone. Tanga Sales Point serves only one region, the Tanga Region. In 2019, the sales point was upgraded to a Zonal office to save some Districts and health facilities from the Kilimanjaro and Manyara regions. This makes a total of 14 districts. The upgrade also gave the staff more authority in dealing with customers and ensuring smooth operations.
In 2023, two districts were shifted back to the Kilimanjaro zone: Simanjiro of the Manyara region and Mwanga of the Kilimanjaro zone. The zone remained, serving 12 districts: eleven (11) from the Tanga region and one (1) from the Kilimanjaro Region. The districts are Tanga CC, Pangani DC, Mkinga DC, Muheza DC, Korogwe DC, Korogwe TC, Handeni DC, Handeni TC, Kilindi DC, Lushoto DC, Bumbuli DC from the Tanga Region, and Same DC from the Kilimanjaro Region.
