Legal Services Unit

The Legal Services Unit oversees the Medical Stores Department's day-to-day legal affairs and ensures the institution adheres to relevant laws and regulations. Comprising highly skilled Senior Legal Officers, the unit plays a vital role as the liaison between MSD and the Office of the Attorney General.

Key responsibilities of the Legal Services Unit include:

  1. Advisory
    Providing legal advice and support to the Board of Trustees, various departments, and units to ensure MSD operates within its legal framework and safeguards its reputation from potential risks.
  2. Reviewing Legal Documents and Internal Regulations
    As a supply chain institution, MSD interacts with a wide range of international and local stakeholders, and the Legal Services Unit ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  3. Vetting Agreements
    Ensuring that all agreements entered into by MSD are legally sound and in the institution's best interest.
  4. Monitoring Corporate Legal Compliance
    Overseeing compliance with applicable laws and regulations to ensure MSD's operations remain legally secure.
  5. Case Management
    Managing and overseeing any legal cases involving MSD.
  6. Coordinating Board of Trustees and Executive Management Meetings

Providing secretarial services to the Board of Trustees meetings by diligently conducting all scheduled and unscheduled Board activities. Further, the Unit is responsible for playing the role of secretary in all Executive Management Team (EMT) Meetings.

 

About MSD

Medical Stores Department (MSD) was established by the Act of Parliament No.13 of 1993 as an autonomous department under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children responsible for developing, maintaining and managing an efficient and cost effective system of procurement, storage and distribution of approved medicines and medical supplies required for use by all public health facilities.
