Mavere Tukai is a supply chain expert with over twenty years of local and international experience. He is vastly experienced in designing, planning, implementing, and monitoring health supply chain systems. Mr. Tukai is a pharmacist licensed in Tanzania, a Pharmaceutical Management System expert acquired through an MSc Course in Pharmaceutical Services and Medicines Control, and a Procurement and Supply Management (PSM) professional registered (charter holder) under the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies (CIPS) in the UK.    

Since 2003, Mavere has provided leadership, operational oversight, and technical guidance to developing countries’ health supply chain management systems with a special focus on assessing, reviewing, developing strategic plans and business plans, and monitoring the implementation of supply chain interventions.

At the global level, between 2011 and 2016, Mr. Tukai was a lead person in supply chain technical assistance for the USAID-funded Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS), based in Washington DC. Since 2016, Mavere has been a Chief of Party for the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Technical Assistance Program (GHSC TA TZ), providing overall leadership to support the Government of Tanzania (GoT) technical assistance to strengthen the health supply chain system. 

In April 2022, Mr. Tukai was appointed Director General of the Medical Stores Department (MSD), Tanzania, where he continues to lead efforts in optimizing public health supply chain systems. He strongly advocates for the commercialization of public health supply chains, aiming to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility in healthcare delivery.

Medical Stores Department (MSD) was established by the Act of Parliament No.13 of 1993 as an autonomous department under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children responsible for developing, maintaining and managing an efficient and cost effective system of procurement, storage and distribution of approved medicines and medical supplies required for use by all public health facilities.
